Assessment plays and important role in the teaching-learning process of any subject, as it constitutes a fundamental tool to measure whether the students learn or not; to design and redesign strategies to help the students acquire knowledge, form habits and develop communicative skills that make possible the fulfillment of objectives. The objective of this work is to try to make assessment a more efficient, objective, and trustful process. The ideas discussed in the paper constitute an outcome of the research project: The improvement of the teaching of English in elementary, secondary and high school levels. A first attempt to achieve this is the proposal of some indicators and descriptors proposed to assess writing in English as a foreign language in English teacher training. The work includes an exploring study of some frameworks that are more currently used internationally, the proposal, and its results.
