In the continuous improvement of the Cuban educational system the environmental education is included for the sustainable development in the study programs, with the purpose of contributing to the formation of a protection culture, conservation and rational use of the environment in the community context. This educational premeditation acquires special attention in Secondary Basic, where each school will design the institutional curriculum, taking into account the particularities from the community to which offers educational services. In such a sense, the objective of the present article is to socialize an experience of community work from the school that contributed favorably to the environmental education for the sustainable development of students in Secondary Basic. In the investigative process they were applied, interrelated dialécticamente, theoretical, empiric and mathematical-statistical methods that facilitated to establish theoretical-methodological foundations of departure, to diagnose the state of the problem to solve and to elaborate a viable proposal that contributes to their solution. The reached scientific result is an educational strategy of community work, designed starting from the characteristics of the students of eighth degree and of the community corresponding to the popular advice Mocha Ceiba in Matanzas, where the Basic Secondary Juan Manuel Quijano is located.
