Abstract

Introduction:

Health economics occupies an important role within the health field in Cuba, there have been some partial evaluations of the scientific production of the discipline. However, its products have not been evaluated in an integrated manner, therefore, an integrated analysis of such scientific production of health economics is not available.

Objective:

To characterize the scientific production in health economics for the period 2010-2019.

Methods:

A descriptive, retrospective cross-sectional research was conducted. A mixed methodology was used in three phases: 1. Application of a survey to experts in health economics; 2.

Results:

635 products were retrieved for the period under study, the overall production was variable, 36% of the products were made in collaboration, health services supply, general evaluation and economic evaluation were the fields with the highest frequency in the discipline. Responses were obtained from 12 experts; the majority considered that the discipline has had an acceptable (5/12) or significant (4/12) development, achievements and challenges in teaching, research and decision making were argued.

Conclusions:

The characterization of the scientific production of health economics in Cuba allowed knowing the behavior of the products developed in the last decade, the national scientific activity is variable given the inclusion of different types of elements, however, this remains permanent.
