Introduction:

The social approach present in Cuban medicine is implicit in the medical cooperation offered to Guinea Bissau and Timor-Leste, which contributes to the increase of human resources and the strengthening of health systems.

Objective:

To analyze, from the social sciences, the contribution of Cuban cooperation to improve the health status of Guinea Bissau and Timor-Leste, with emphasis on the training of human resources, in the period 2004-2019.

Development:

A quantitative-qualitative research was carried out, supported by a descriptive and retrospective study, in the period from 2004 to 2019. The contribution provided by Cuba to improve the health status of Guinea Bissau and Timor-Leste was analyzed. Cuba offers medical cooperation based on the principles of solidarity, humanism and mutual benefit, aimed mainly at communities with the integration of social participation, through cooperation programs agreed between the parties, which has a positive impact on access to comprehensive health services, the increase of human resources, and a marked social projection.

Conclusions:

Cuban medical cooperation, both assistance and teaching, with main scenario in the community and with social integration, in Guinea Bissau and Timor-Leste contributed to the favorable transformation of the main health indicators and was a potential guarantee to improve the health system towards the future.
