HERRERA SUAREZ, Miguel et al. Development of a Sensor for Soil Continuous Compaction Measurement . Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1, pp.06-11. ISSN 2071-0054.

The economic and environmental repercussion of the agricultural soils compaction has propitiated the development of new means and methods to avoid it, for what the present work has as objective to develop a sensor for soil compaction continuous determination. This sensor is conformed by an extended octagonal rings transducer (EORT), coupled to a tillage tool type winged subsoiler. The soil resistance or mechanical impedance measured by the transducer is later correlated with soil density or compaction state. Finally the developed transducer was tested under controlled conditions using the soil bin CS-CEMA-25, located in the Center of Agricultural Investigations (CEMA), at Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH), showing a sensor appropriate operation that makes it capable for the continuous determination of the soil compaction. The errors during soil compaction predictions oscillated from 1,50 to 4,16%, being demonstrated that the accuracy in the predictions will depend on soil physical conditions and the aptitude of the used prediction equations.
