The objective of the present work was to find the variation of the evaporation and evapotranspiratión of maize in the drying cycle, to establish the models that could relate the extraction of water from the soil with the developing of the plants, the straw mass used as mulch and the sum of days-degrees. Correlations were only found between the mean daily extractions, the straw mass (P) and the foliar area index (FAI). The accumulated water extraction of the crop has significant correlation with the straw mass (P), the height of the plants and the sum of degrees of the mean daily temperature (SG).
