BETANCOURT RODRIGUEZ, Yoel; GUTIERREZ MORALES, Arnaldo; GARCIA RUIZ, Inoel  y  PONCE SALAZAR, Jorge Luís. Soil fragmentation for the sugar cane mound plantation  . Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.3, pp. 41-44. ISSN 2071-0054.

With the objective of determining the degree of soil fragmentation for sugarcane mound plantation, an experiment on a Vertic Gley typical soil, located in areas of the Sugarcane Experimental Station “Jesús Menéndez” was carried out. The difference in the soil fragmentation of the treatments was achieved varying the passes of fine harrow at the end of the soil preparation. Once the aggregate distribution was defined, the mound was characterized as for its dimensions before and after the cane pieces were covers, as it is settled down in the technical handbook for this crop, the cover thickness and bud sprouting percentages were also evaluated. The results showed that the soil fragmentation with 70% of aggregates smaller than 50 mm fulfills the established requirements for mound plantation, achieving a mound height before and after the plantation of 0,20 m, a depth of the furrow of  0,11 m and a cover thickness of 0,05 m, as well as, 49% percentage of bud sprouting, according to what is stated for  Cuban conditions.
