Abstract

DIAZ SUAREZ, Jorge et al. Erodibility for the main soils in V Aniversario watershed of Cuyaguateje River: relationship with other properties. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.4, pp.48-54. ISSN 2071-0054.

Water erosion is the most broadly extended degradation process on Cuban soils, with more than 43.3% of the agricultural area classified between medium and strongly eroded. One of the regions strongly affected by water erosion is the Cuyaguateje River watershed, located in Pinar del Rio province. This region is characterized by an undulated landscape and soils susceptible to erosion. This work presents the result of 18 rainfall simulation experiments done on the agricultural main soils in the V aniversariosubwatershed at the northernmost part of Cuyaguateje watershed. In a preliminary analysis of the erodibility, it shows a low correlation between RUSLE nomograph predicted values and observed ones. The relationship between soil properties and erodibility show no clear tendency. The segregation of the data set in groups based on the ratio Cation Exchange Capacity/clay content improved considerably the intragroup correlation. The tendency for each group is analyzed and a model based on moisture content at 1500 kPa is evaluated as erodibility index.

Keywords : water erosion; RUSLE model; indicators; water retention.
