AUDELO BENITEZ, Marco Antonio et al. Performance evaluation of rollover protective structures (rops) mounted on agricultural tractors sold in Mexico. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2013, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.81-85. ISSN 2071-0054.
The crushing of tractor operators is the main risk of accident when using agricultural machines. Protection structures are an alternative to prevent suffering injury operator when a rollover is present. The objective of this work is to evaluate the performance of these structures mounted on agricultural tractors sold in Mexico. The methodology is based on the Mexican standard NMX-O-181-SCFI-2003, which is the OECD code 4. The tests were conducted in the test laboratory of the National Center of Farm Machinery Standardization (CENEMA) belonging to INIFAP. A total of 50 protection structures were tested, mounted on 107 tractor models. From these, 13 structures have been rejected because they do not meet the objective of protecting the security zone when a rollover occurs. The main cause of rejection is the invasion of the safety zone before starting with the application of loads. This means that in most cases there isn’t a resistance problem in structures, the problem is the configuration oftractor tested.
