Resumen

ROBLEDO, José; VANEGAS CHACON, Eddi Alejandro  y  GARCIA ALVAREZ, Nancy. Water quality of Tunico River in response to land use. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.3, pp.41-45. ISSN 2071-0054.

The quality of surface water bodies in the subbasin of Túnico River as an expression of land use should be monitored to ensure the sustainability of agricultural ecosystems through the conservation of water sources. Based on the current land zoning and monthly water measurements of physicochemical variables conducted between July 2012 and June 20013 as response to land use, the water quality was estimated using logistic regression, according with the maximum permissible values established by the Authority for the Sustainable Management of the Lake Izabal and Rio Dulce. Also, mixed models for the prediction of physicochemical variables were established by multiple regressions. The state of the N-NO3- in the drained water is considered desirable, regardless of land use, significant effect of land use on total phosphorus content was determined, however, the model was of low quality using as criteria the r2. It was not possible to establish the effect of land use on N-NH4+ and N-NO2-. The study of physicochemical variables allowed developing statistical models of mixed nature with 5% significance for predicting conductivity, total dissolved solids and salinity.

Palabras clave : water pollution; logistic regression; water conservation.
