MOSSANDE, Anaclides Rogério; BROWN MANRIQUE, Oscar e MUJICA, Albi. Water requirements of the tomato in the valley of Cavaco in Benguela, Angola. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.2, pp. 5-10. ISSN 2071-0054.
A research for the determination of crop water requirements of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) with the use of a drip irrigation system powered by photovoltaic energy was carried out in the Cavaco Valley in Benguela province, in Angola. The reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was calculated using the Penman Monteith method and crop evapotranspiration (ETc) from the water balance equation on the ground. The value of Kc is defined to relate ETc to ETo. The study of the dynamics of crop phenology was performed by direct observations after planting days (APD). Setting Kc to the initial, middle and final stage was conducted according to the Allen’s methodology. The results indicate Kc values of 0.51; 1.17 and 0.60 in the initial, intermediate and final stages, which in the intermediate and final stages were similar to those tabulated Kc values suggested by FAO and adjusted to the conditions of the locality, but differ slightly in the initial phase by 1.7% and 3.5% respectively. Crop evapotranspiration reached values of 2.4; 5.6 and 3.5 mm•day-1 in each of the phonological stages. For all the phonological cycle of the crop evapotranspiration of 432.4 mm was reached.
