CAICEDO CAMPOSANO, Oscar; BALMASEDA ESPINOSA, Carlos e PROANO SARAGURO, Jaime. Irrigation schedules of banana (Musa paradisiaca) in San José 2 ranch, Los Ríos province, Ecuador. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.2, pp.18-22. ISSN 2071-0054.
In the province Los Ríos, Ecuador, irrigation practices in banana plantations are based on the farmer`s own experience, they are carried out in an empiric way. One of the more used practices is to irrigate daily in a fixed water application depth during the dry season. The objective of this research was to compare three irrigation scheduling that include: irrigate at critical depletion and refill soil to field capacity, irrigate at fixed interval a fixed water application depth, and no irrigation (rain fed). The results obtained with the employment of CROPWAT program demonstrate the necessity of the irrigation practices in the dry period to avoid yield losses that can surpass 40%. On the other hand, the current used irrigation scheduling exceede the irrigation water requirement, like it has happened in the last three years. An irrigation scheduling at critical depletion and refill soil to field capacity is efficient.
