In this paper an analysis approaches from prestigious academic institutions and the role of science and social responsibility of scientists was held, which was the basis for evaluating the development of universities as generators and promoters of new scientific knowledge and technology. The processes of change in Ecuadorian universities were framed, which has a special weight. We included some international reports illustrate that countries with higher contributions from I+D are among the top ranking both competitiveness, innovation and human development. These analyzes support the needed change just in Ecuadorian universities.
