Over the past two decades, many management experts have concentrated on the subject of leadership. The present work has reviewed the literature with the aim of answering the following questions: What are the reasons for leadership studies to be of special interest to scholars at present, which have given occasion to a boom in such studies? What are trends in contemporary approaches to this subject? And what new types of leadership do experts present? This way, were kept in mind the aspects that have occasioned the "boom" on leadership studies, the main trends in leadership research and the specialists proposals on new "leadership models".
