Abstract

DE LA OLIVA DE CON, Fidel. A New Era in Cuba-United States Relations: Benefits and Limitations. Cofin [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 2073-6061.

After the announcement of restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, broken off over 50 years ago, a new era in relations of all kinds between the two nations has started, beginning a process of normalizing them. However, accumulated tensions and, above all, the persistence of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba are difficulties and obstacles to be overcome, contrasting with benefits of such normalization. The present work is aimed at weighing up benefits and limitations, based on a paper on the subject given by the author at XXXIV International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), May 27 - 30, 2016, New York.
