This paper uses agency theory and examines its principles in Cuban government-owned companies. Regarding this subject emphasis is put on answering such questions as who acts as owner on behalf of the Government, how contracts are signed, and how control is exerted. Current structural changes in the Cuban business system and its shortcomings are examined, and a distinction between it and business systems in other countries is made. In the last section, the paper is focused on autonomy which is considered a result of the aspects dealt with.
