Resumen

Background: the formation of professionals linguistically competent is a top priority for Cuba to offer health assistance or educational collaboration in English speaking countries. Objective: to elaborate a didactic manual that allows to the English professors to develop their classes by means of the integration of the four linguistic abilities. Methods: it was carried out a cross-sectional descriptive study from September 2012 to June 2013, in Villa Clara Health Technology Faculty. Theoretical methods were applied: analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive and systemic-structural; empiric: documental analysis of syllabuses and Calendar Plan, observation to classes and the survey was applied to professors and students; all them with the objective of verifying the integration or not of the four linguistic abilities; and the statistical-mathematical one for the absolute and relative values. Results: in the level of competence declared in the syllabuses it is not contemplated the integration of the four linguistic abilities as well as it is not expressed how to achieve them in class either , the professors recognize to have methodological lacks to integrate them and the students doesn't feel motivated since the program doesn't contribute to the working profile as future professionals; that´s why a didactic manual was elaborated which was subjected to specialists' criteria for its implementation. Conclusions: in the manual the theoretical-methodological background was established for the integration of the four linguistic abilities in English teaching, for that reason it was valued as adequate by the consulted specialists for its authenticity, updating, approachability, applicability, scientific rigor, didactic conception, logical structure of the actions, flexibility, and possibility of generalization.
