Background: scientific publications at present are the most effective method to generalize a research result, as they become a circulated and shared scientific knowledge. Objective: to describe the involvement of students of the "Mario Muñoz Monroy" Vanguard Movement in scientific publications. Methods: a descriptive study was carried out at "Lidia Doce Sánchez" medical university site of Sagua la Grande, in the academic year 2015-2016; methods of the theoretical level were used: analytic-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical-logical, and from the empirical level: the questionnaire survey and group interview to students to search on the topic. Results: students agree on the advantages of publishing; However, most of them have not done so and they only know one Cuban magazine that offers them space for it; a considerable percentage do not feel prepared for this exercise because they have not received advice on the subject so they do not recognize the requirements for the presentation of the scientific article and assert that teachers do not motivate them to publish. Conclusions: the state of knowledge of the students of the"Mario Muñoz Monroy" Vanguard Movement in regard to scientific publications is still insufficient, they show little mastery of the information regarding the publication of the results of a scientific research, they feel little prepared and they have not received the advice that is required in this regard.
