Abstract

PALACIOS VALDERRAMA, Walter; ALVAREZ AVILES, Miguel Edmundo; VALLE VILLAMARIN, Mónica Lorena  and  HERNANDEZ NAVARRO, Marlene Isabel. Use of information and communication technologies by Ecuadorian university teachers. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.3, pp.25-39. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: the rising of information and communication technologies imposes training for the mastery and use of these tools in the university teaching-learning process. Objective: to inquire about the use of information and communication technologies in the teaching-learning process of the Dentistry degree at the University of Guayaquil, Republic of Ecuador. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was developed in the October-December 2017 period in the Pilot School of Dentistry of the University of Guayaquil. Theoretical methods were used: systemic, historical-logical and analytical-synthetic; and empirical ones: scientific observation and questionnaire survey to teachers to know their opinion about the use of information and communication technologies in the teaching-learning process. Results: the professors mentioned that there were difficulties, especially in the older teachers. The most used resource was the power point, they said they had low knowledge about other technological tools, so they did not use the computer in their classes. Most had not been trained in the use and mastery of information and communication technologies. Conclusions: the deficiencies detected allowed to ensure that the permanent updating of teachers in the use of technologies is a necessity and a requirement of the teaching-learning process in the university environment, so that methodological and curricular adjustments are needed to satisfy such demands.
