RODRIGUEZ FERNANDEZ, Zenén  y  SOLER MOREJON, Caridad de Dios. Dimensions of the in-service training in Cuban medical teaching. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.4, pp.208-226.  Epub 30-Dic-2020. ISSN 2077-2874.

Introduction:

the in-service training characterizes Cuban medical education. Its essence consists on the integration of theory and practice, but it contains other elements that must be analyzed in its conception.

Objective:

to comprehensively analyze the different dimensions that characterize the in-service training in Cuban medical education.

Methods:

documentary review of information retrieved from Web of Science, Lilacs and Google scholar. 25 out of 58 articles were selected, directly related to the proposed objective.

Development:

the in-service training in Cuba has a growing role in all training scenes and in the curriculum. Its community projection is linked to the concept of intersectorality. The strict compliance with ethical principles stands out in its conception. Its teaching character follows universal trends and integrates the components of the teaching-learning process, endorsed by the scientific method. The systematic and fair evaluation allows increasing the degrees of supervised freedom of the student. Maintaining quality depends on the response to the identified challenges.

Conclusions:

the in-service training integrates the application of didactics and clinical and epidemiological methods, among other elements; therefore, a comprehensive approach must be assumed in its analysis that takes into account its many and broad dimensions. Its omnipresence in the training curriculum and in all healthcare scenarios always imposes new challenges on the medical university and the national health system.
