MADRIGAL MORA, Liovesky; FERRIOL RODRIGUEZ, Marta Rosa; MENESES FOYO, Ángel and CESPON FERRIOL, Alejandro. Post-COVID-19 Surgical Specialty Residents State Exam Performance. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.3, pp.132-146. Epub Sep 30, 2021. ISSN 2077-2874.
Background:
situations that generate academic stress refer to events that occur in the university environment that potentially cause stress in students: final exams, number of subjects to study, responsibility for academic work, task overload, course work, evaluations frequent and time to fulfill the activities, among others.
Objective:
to evaluate the academic performance of residents of surgical specialties during the performance of the state exam in times of COVID-19.
Methods:
a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in residents of surgical specialties of the Hospital Universitario Clínico Quirúrgico "Arnaldo Milián Castro" who presented themselves to the call for state examinations October-November 2020 and who had direct participation in the care of patients positive to COVID 19. Theoretical and empirical methods were used.
Results:
of the ten surgical specialties, seven had residents examined. Regardless of the route of entry, they obtained Excellent grades in the exams carried out. Those whose entry route was the second specialty were the ones with the best academic performance as they all obtained excellent results.
Conclusions:
the academic performance of residents of surgical specialties in the performance of the state exam in times of COVID-19 was satisfactory.
