Resumo

Background:

the insertion of informational competences in the work of the medical science professional implies the management of new roles that integrate the consumption of electronic information, the generation of new knowledge and its socialization.

Objective:

to characterize the development of informational competences in health professionals belonging to the Teaching Gynecological-obstetric Hospital of Palma Soriano municipality in Santiago de Cuba province.

Methods:

a descriptive study was carried out at “Nelia Irma Delfín Ripoll” Gynecological-obstetric Teaching Hospital, in Palma Soriano during 2020, Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and inductive-deductive and the systemic approach; empirical ones: documentary analysis, questionnaire and observation.

Results:

there was a predominance of university education, the need for information as something objective, inadequate use of search strategies, type of information sources used electronically for self-study, inadequate collaborative work and discussion groups for research.

Conclusions:

the development of informational competences in health professionals belonging to the Teaching Gynecological-Obstetric Hospital in Palma Soriano was characterized, with a view to achieving a wide thematic coverage and quality of the contents of the organization in the management systems and the development of informational competencies that promote retroactivity in the confrontation of health problems.
