PORTAL BENITEZ, Leonila Noralis; GARCIA MARTINEZ, Melba; PERDOMO BLANCO, Liset and DUARTE LINARES, Yoisel. Values from bioethics in the competence based training of health professionals. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2022, vol.14, e2368. Epub July 30, 2022. ISSN 2077-2874.
Introduction:
the competence-based training approach stands as one of the ways to approach the achievement of the desired quality in medical specialties.
Objective:
to deepen into the importance of values, from a bioethical perspective, in training processes based on competence in health professionals.
Methods:
a bibliographic review was carried out in the main electronic databases: Scielo, PubMed, EBSCO, Scopus, Google Scholar. A total of 20 bibliographical references in Spanish and English were consulted; all of them scientific articles. The following keywords were used: bioethics, education, values, and professional skills.
Development:
values, alien to strictly scientific knowledge are key in the daily practice of the health professional. Professional competencies can be defined as those personality qualities that allow self-regulation of the subject's behavior based on the integration of scientific knowledge, skills and abilities related to the exercise of a profession, as well as the motives, feelings, needs and values associated with it, which allow, facilitate and promote effective and efficient professional performance within a given social context.
Conclusions:
the training of the resident doctor in current times must necessarily be based on competencies, where the values from bioethics acquire transcendental importance. This will achieve the training of competent and comprehensive professionals, in a higher learning context to the existing ones.
Keywords : ethics, medical; competency-based education; education, continuing; education, medical.
