BARROS MORALES, Roosvelt; RODRIGUEZ DOMINGUEZ, Luisa de los Ángeles y BARROS BASTIDA, Carlos Isaa. The game of forty, an option for the teaching of mathematics and social sciences in Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2015, vol.7, n.2, pp. 137-144. ISSN 2218-3620.
Using only explanatory and illustrative methods does not guarantee the formation of students' capacities. The goals and tasks of education are also achieved using independent approaches that lead to solving everyday problems. Thus, the intention is to introduce ludic methods that meet the new contemporary demands of teaching activation, which is the appropriate way to raise the quality of education. Card games help strengthen the capacity of students with the use of the game of Forty. The "Forty" is classified among the passive popular games because it does not require physical efforts, but a triple mental effort instead. That´s why elements such as: mathematics, the use of memory and the strategy each player takes during the game should be complemented very well. As the name says, the goal is obtaining 40 points to win the game, so the first team obtaining the 40 points wins. The influence games have over the development of mathematical capacities in students is demonstrated in this article, since games develop motivation and behavioral change during the educational processes they have been applied in.
