MOJICA ZARATE, Héctor Tecumshé; MARTINEZ MARTINEZ, Carlos Cristobal e PERDOMO LOPEZ, María Elena. STRATEGIC WATER MANAGEMENT THROUGHT ECOTECHNOLOGICAL PRAXIS IN ARID TERRITORIES OF MEXICO. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.4, pp.116-122. ISSN 2218-3620.
The Moctezuma sub-basin, in Mexico, shows a decrease in rainfalls and an inadequate and changable water management, as a response of cattle rising and agriculture. In the upper cattle rising area, runoff water is preferably used, with dissimilar forms and strategies for its collection and conservation, due to historical, economic and technological causes. The opposite occurs in the agricultural fringe near the river, where irrigation is basically supported by the aquifer. Officially, there is an under-exploitation of the aquifer, but this is questionable, because the aquifer tends to decrease by the increasing use and decreasing of its recharge due to mismanagement of the basin. An integrated approach is recommended to provide solutions, highlighting the extension of eco-technological water collection practice, improved according to prevailing conditions and environmental conservation.
