This paper shows the need of a new university publishing model for the University of Cienfuegos, from the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the editorial "Universo Sur". The model offered includes a new structure, relations and functions of the elements which integrate it. Its proposal is founded in the most updated theory about this knowledge's area and the way in which editorial processes are managed in practice.
