The corporate social responsibility (CSR) has a large field of action at all levels and in any type of economic activity, so the tourist area is not an exception. This paper is aimed at presenting general elements about sustainable tourism, this, as part of the corporate social responsibility which is promoted nowadays worldwide. Firstly, it is realized compilation of some definitions, which are the basis of the research about the sustainable development. Then, it is established the relation between social responsibility, sustainable development and tourism to be able to define sustainable tourism pillars, its principles and characteristics. Finally, the investigation shows worldwide evolution (through agreements) of those practices, and mentions some sustainable standards to hotels as the principles representatives in the touristic sector.
