El turismo está unido a la prestación de servicios hoteleros, la ciudad de Cuenca no es la excepción, con el inicio de las empresas hoteleras organizadas, que prestaban está función para satisfacer las necesidades de los comerciantes. Sin embargo, es a partir de este factor que se empieza un tipo de turismo muy rudimentario, básicamente unido a la prestación de alojamiento básico. El presente artículo es un trabajo integrador de los inicios de está actividad en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador; en el trabajo se muestran los inicios de la actividad en el siglo XX, para el estudio se ha tomado fuentes bibliográficas disponibles y además las fuentes primarias de los actores mismos que han trabajado en la hotelería cuencana en sus inicios.

Tourism is not separation of the provision of services hotel’s, the city of Cuenca is not a exception, in the beginning with the organization of hotels, providing basics needs to the traders. However, it is from this factor that starts a type of tourism very rudimentary, basically joint to provide to the basic accommodation. This article is an integrator of the early work of activity in Cuenca, Ecuador; in the present work show the beginning of the activity in the 20th century, for the study has been taken available bibliographical sources and also the primary sources of the same actors who have worked in hospitality in the starting.
