Leadership is a fundamental starting point in the success of the efficiency, effectiveness and effectiveness of companies. The objective of the research is to analyze, from a reflective and explanatory framework, the potential of leadership as a source of competitive advantage for organizations, from studying the different styles and competencies of managers to face this challenge. The research was supported in the analysis of the theories and approaches derived from the bibliographic review. The type of study was exploratory of transversal analytical type, and was developed in six companies of the Macha Canton, Province of El Oro, Ecuador, dedicated to the production of organic bananas. The fundamental results were that the leaders are not depending on the opportunities of the companies and that they are not used in the potential that the company can have in its production.
