En el contexto en que se desenvuelven las empresas en la actualidad la gestión financiera ocupa un lugar fundamental en la toma de decisiones referente a su estructura de capital. Este constituye un tema sobre el cual existe una gran polémica entre los estudiosos e investigadores; determinar cuál es la combinación óptima de recursos propios y ajenos que generan un mayor valor de empresa. La presente investigación se desarrolla en el sector bananero de la Provincia de el Oro particularizado en las pequeñas y medianas empresas ubicadas en el Cantón Machala. Su objetivo está centrado en el estudio de su estructura de capital, a partir del análisis de las alternativas para obtención de fondos de financiación. Es Para su desarrollo se aplicaron métodos de tipo teórico y empírico, que le otorgan determinado rigor a los análisis y resultados obtenidos. Como resultados fundamentales se obtuvo que las empresas utilizan como fuente de financiamiento fundamental a los proveedores seguido de los agentes de la economía informal así como, que existe un bajo porciento de endeudamiento de las empresas determinado básicamente por el uso de las diferentes fuentes de financiamiento.

In the context in which companies operate today, financial management occupies a fundamental place in making decisions regarding their capital structure. This is a subject on which there is a great controversy between scholars and researchers; Determine which is the optimal combination of own and foreign resources that generate a greater business value. The present investigation is developed in the banana sector of the Province of El Oro particularized in the small and medium enterprises located in the Machala Canton. Its objective is focused on the study of its capital structure, based on the analysis of the alternatives for obtaining financing funds. For its development theoretical and empirical methods were applied, which give certain rigor to the analyzes and results obtained. As fundamental results, it was obtained that the companies use as a source of fundamental financing to the suppliers followed by the agents of the informal economy, as well as, that there is a low percentage of the indebtedness of the companies, determined basically by the use of the different sources of financing.
