This work shows the results of a research guided to the solution of the pedagogical problem: How can we use the local history in the components of the university pedagogical process to contribute to improve the formation of the teachers? This brought about the design of a model for the use of the local history focused on social history guided to improve the essential formation of teachers. The characteristics, origins, premises, the components and subsystems that made up the model are exposed. It concludes that the use of the local history is a process that includes actions which are based on historical, pedagogical and scientific conceptions, in the stronger formation of local history that includes the academic, work, research and the extension to society, going above the directions focused on the transmission of knowledge.
