This paper Identity and baseball in Cienfuegos nineteenth-century society (1882-1887) analyzes how baseball brought from the United States of America has stood out in our society since the last century. Baseball came at the time of the formation of our identity and nationality. Baseball practice included modern, hygienist and healthy concepts that transformed the socio-cultural canons of the time. For the Spaniards and creole fundamentally, baseball constituted an anticolonial symbol, by competing with cockfights, horse races and bullfights, representative competitions of the Hispanic culture.
