Abstract

The present work reveals a science and technology approach from the actions deployed by Tomás Terry Adams between the years 1830-1882. It highlights the role assumed by an immigrant who conquered the Cienfuegos space, and introduced a modern thought that allowed him to make his fortune and to be linked to the economic and commercial activities of the group of the polyvalent Cienfuegos bourgeoisie. In the body of the work, it is declared how the conversion of the sugar mill took place in Cienfuegos, and of this one in the central one, only with the disposition of the capitals of the southern polyvalent bourgeoisie of which Tomás Terry was part and that was the one with the sufficient capital applied scientific knowledge to the sugar technification and its commercialization. In the specific case of Cienfuegos, the participation of the bourgeois block managed to put its fortunes in the process of modernization of technology with marked individual and social interests, possible to also be part of the elite and the groups of power.
