The article presents an evaluative approach to the analysis of Cienfuegos legends as a component of local intangible heritage. This analysis requires some aspects such as the intangible cultural heritage and its link with the community, as well as the indissoluble connection between oral narration and traditional and popular culture. Likewise, an approach to the importance of socio-cultural actions and the role of the community in the revitalization and safeguarding of the patrimonial legacy (stock) is needed. To support the judgments made, the authors set out criteria of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, regarding cultural policies and heritage; as well as judgments of authors, theorists and essayists with great experience in topics related to culture, cultural heritage, legends, the community, among others.
