This article analyzed the project and construction of Cienfuegos-Villa Clara railroad in the section that belonged to Cienfuegos jurisdiction (1848-1862). The aim of this article is to analyze the environmental, socioeconomic and cultural consequences brought about by the introduction of this technology in Cienfuegos territory during the already mentioned period. The investigation was conceived taking into account the historical criticism procedures to study documentary, bibliographical and periodical sources that allowed the reconstruction of the initial history of railroad in Cienfuegos jurisdiction. At the same time, some aspects revealed, allow to corroborate the idea that the process of technological transference carried out in Cienfuegos jurisdiction during the period of reference, generated some consequences to Cienfuegos society as well as to the natural environment that were perceptible since its construction process. Works and operations related to the railroad modified both spaces bringing about results of different sort: some of them were unfavorable like deforestation, soil erosion and subsistence crops diminishment; and some others were in favor, such as, an increase in sugar production, new villages or new habits and lifestyles emergence, among others. This research is part of the efforts to deepen on the history of Cienfuegos from new topics and methodological approaches.
