The history of education in Cienfuegos in the first half of the twentieth century is marked by the terrible situation in which the country remained after thirty years of struggle. The North American intervention had as one of its priorities the changes in the educational sphere. In the municipality of Cienfuegos proliferated educational institutions of a private nature, whether religious or secular in the first three decades, while from there the state initiative stands out. Therefore, the author raises a possible periodization for the study of educational institutions that attend the above. The objective of the present work is to make an overview of the emergence of educational institutions in Cienfuegos (1900-1958). In it, a small characterization of each of them is made.
