Resumen

RODRIGUEZ GARCES, Carlos  y  PADILLA FUENTES, Geraldo. To take care of them at home or to pre-schooling them: Itineraries of a maternal decision by means of trees of segmentation. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.4, pp.370-376.  Epub 02-Sep-2019. ISSN 2218-3620.

Undertaking the responsibility of bringing up children is a task that has been culturally and socially delegated to mothers. However, the redefinition of roles and new social demands has caused women to entrust part of this task due to work or the perceived benefit of pre-school. This article analyzes the maternal decisions of child care by reviewing reported reasons in a national representation survey, and diagramming in a segmentation tree, typological itinerary according to significant variables. The results inform that, reasons of a personal nature over the institutional barriers restrict early school insertion particularly in very young children (0 to 2 years). These care decisions are modeled in accordance to the age of the child, the mother's job, her residence and the presence of potential substitute caregivers.

Palabras clave : Informal care; care option; maternal labor force participation; pre-school insertion; early childhood stimulation.
