The Cienfuegos press witnessed the agrarian changes that took place in Cuba and in the Cienfuegos region during 1959. The contradictions proven by the structural changes in land tenure and the political reforms applied by the revolutionary government gave rise to various opinions that led to the debates and controversies surrounding the agrarian question of the different classes and social sectors that played a determining role. It was necessary to solve and change the deformed structure of the Cuban countryside and its social ills, an issue that justifies the new type of relations of production established in Cuban agriculture and the reason for the First Law of Agrarian Reform. Cienfuegos during 1959, became a space of bitter social, political and ideological struggle in which representatives of the M-26-7, II Front of the Escambray, Popular Socialist Party and other organizations, largely propitiated by the project, were involved agrarian that was brewing the Revolutionary Government. This situation demonstrated moments of rupture and radicalization in the confrontation between the main political and social forces as the project was launched. The objetive of this article is analice the debates in the Cienfuegos newspapers La Correspondencia about the agrarian problem not only at the regional level, but also in its different sections referring to the most important news at the national level.
