RIVAS RAMIREZ, Karol Andrea; PARRA CARDENAS, Alexandra Verónica y FUENTES MORENO, Aníbal Gonzalo. Equestrian tourism and other modalities in the Mejia canton. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.6, pp. 60-67. Epub 02-Dic-2020. ISSN 2218-3620.
The Mejía canton in the province of Pichicha, has positioned two modalities of young development: ecotourism and adventure tourism, strengthened by the unique geography of the territory, diversity of natural ecosystems with the presence of native and endemic flora and fauna, which have favored the supply of tourist activities such as agrotourism, equestrian tourism, avitourism and cycle tourism; also has worked to take advantage of historical and cultural activities and traditions such as the traditional Chagra Processional Walk, which once a year, draws the attention of visitors usually local and less demand for international visitors. The Paseo del Chagra commemorates and introduces the visitor to the Chacarera culture, which has promoted a little known offer of equestrian tourism products, very well planned, supported by the Local Autonomous Government and operated by the haciendas present in the territory, many of them historic. However, this activity remains unknown to most tourists, who continue to choose to visit the territory for ecotourism and adventure activities. Therefore, the research sought to determine the importance of equestrian tourism in Mejía County and other modalities, for which a descriptive research was conducted, under a qualitative approach using bibliographic research, interview and field observation techniques.
