This paper addresses the advantages of using a photovoltaic solar system on the roof of the Postgraduate University Hotel at the University of Cienfuegos headquarters. The hotel is characterized by a variable electricity consumption during the period studied, as a result of the services it offers. Knowing the characteristics and dimensions of the building and its roof, it was possible, to simulate the operation of the photovoltaic solar system, using the PVSyst 6 software, obtaining the electricity generation values ​​that it can offer. The simulation was performed with different positions of the panels on the surface and the electric generation results were studied in different periods of time. The capacity of the proposed system to satisfy part of the building's energy consumption was studied. Photovoltaic solar generation would provide, according to simulation, 69,520 kWh / year, which represents 52.05% of the building's annual consumption. The economic contribution for this concept would provide an annual saving of 15,989.6 pesos. The investment presents a payback period (PSRI) of 7.89 years, satisfactory for this type of renewable energy source.
