Resumen

MOLINA CALAHORRANO, Carlos Eduardo; DURAN OCAMPO, Armando Rogelio  y  VILELA PINCAY, Wilson Exson. Revocation of the mandate of popular election authorities by petition of the citizenship. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.2, pp.544-557.  Epub 02-Abr-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

This article responds to a case study developed with the objective of analyzing the mandate revocation processes in the province of El Oro. The study was supported by the demands for revocation of the mandate to authorities of the province and systematized through the methods of documentary and bibliographic review, scientific, analytical-synthetic observation, content analysis, historical-logical and statistical; as well as in the interview technique. Among the main findings are the existence in Ecuador of a broad regulatory framework for the revocation of the mandate, which is fulfilled by the delegation of the National Electoral Council of the El Oro province; The case study carried out allows us to conclude that this mechanism is frequently manipulated for political purposes by the opponents of the elected authorities in order to discredit the management of the party to which the defendant belongs and because of personal quarrels; for which its praxis is perfectible.

Palabras clave : Popular elections; direct democracy; citizen participation.
