Resumen

LUNA NEMECIO, Josemanuel. Socio-environmental conflicts over the defense of water in México: a conceptual cartographic meta-analysis. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.4, pp.398-412.  Epub 02-Ago-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

Neoliberalism in Mexico has been the condition for the emergence of a large number of socio-environmental conflicts. In this context, various movements of struggle and resistance arose around the defense of water. Despite the importance and sensitivity of this phenomenon to society, there are still gaps in the academic literature on the subject and pending work to do. The objective of this research is to provide a cartographic and conceptual meta-analysis to account for the contributions, limitations, contradictions, and lack of clarity of the academic treatment of the concept of socio-environmental conflicts related to water (SECW). The methodology was based on a conceptual mapping for the systematization of documentary information presented in articles published in journals with a high impact factor. The study provides an understanding of 1) the dynamics and trends of the political economy of SECW; and 2) the concepts, characteristics, and categories relating to socio-environmental conflicts related to water. The main conclusion of the research is that, in the critique of political economy, there are theoretical, conceptual, and instrumental elements to complement the analytical, epistemological, and methodological tools with which the subject of SECW has been treated.

Palabras clave : Socio-environmental conflicts; defense of water; neoliberalism; water resources; risk; vulnerability.
