In the first decades of the Republic of Cuba, the middle class of the city of Santa Clara built houses designed by master builders, characterized mainly by their irreverence to the academic and by the great spontaneity in the ornamental motifs. These creations have an interrelation between traditions and the new stylistic influences, which established the first variant of the eclectic house, which is called Romantic. In this work an overview of this architecture in Santa Clara identifying its evolutionary variants and its characteristics, attending to stylistic and typological particularities, geographical location, the period and the architectural particularities of part and component elements, of the facade and interior elements.
