The issue of internationalization has become increasingly important given the growth in demand for this level of studies and its consequent overcrowding; therefore, it represents a challenge for the higher education system in terms of quality and equity. In this regard, mobility can be a way of incorporating quality elements through the recognition and verification of credits obtained in other foreign institutions. The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept and meaning of internationalization and the strategies to enhance the international dimension from the Fundacion Metropolitana at the Universidad Metropolitana. This requires an analysis of meanings, definitions of terms and descriptions of several approaches to internationalization, to assess the importance of internationalization in higher education and analysis of appropriate strategies to integrate it into the Universidad Metropolitana de Ecuador.
