Resumen

ITURRALDE CARRERA, Luis Ángel; MONTEAGUDO YANES, José Pedro  y  CASTRO PERDOMO, Nelson Arsenio. Energy efficiency and business competitiveness in north America. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.5, pp.479-489.  Epub 02-Oct-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

In recent years there has been a great deterioration of the environment, due to the global mismanagement of natural resources, natural reserves have greatly diminished. To face this crisis, the development of renewable sources of energy and the correct use of resources, through energy efficiency, is of vital importance. In this research, an energy and environmental analysis is carried out at a global level, mainly in North America, due to its worldwide influence on the environmental situation of the planet. It was found that, with respect to climate change, the Earth is at a critical moment due to the lack of initiative at the global level; On the positive side, there is a decrease in energy intensity and in the growth of the use of renewable energy sources. The analyzed region has a low intensity in the emission of CO2, a continuous improvement in the intensity of energy (high value) and a high development in renewable energy sources. However, the United States, as the leading country for energy in the area, together with Canada, maintains a bad international policy regarding the care and protection of the environment, the opposite of Mexico, the driving force in this regard.

Palabras clave : Climate change; energy efficiency; energy intensity; renewable sources of energy; environment.
