Resumen

PEREZ PADILLA, Carlos Albert et al. Incidence of Down Syndrome in the neonatal ward. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp. 328-335.  Epub 02-Abr-2022. ISSN 2218-3620.

The research aims to evaluate the historical cohort for obstetric characteristics and neonatal course and complications in Jerusalem for those born with Down syndrome (DS). Computerized medical records of newborns diagnosed with DS born in the four major hospitals in Jerusalem between the years 2000 and 2010 were reviewed, and maternal history and primary neonatal hospitalization were assessed. 403 newborns were diagnosed with DS. Of which maternal age, delivery process, mean birth weight, head circumference percentiles were analyzed. Subsequently, variables such as mortality during primary hospitalization, the most common anomalies with congenital defects or functional abnormalities and their relationship with the length of hospitalization were analyzed. Perinatal complications, feeding with breast milk and supplements were also studied. Various conclusions were reached, including that infants with DS were small for gestational age and had relatively small head circumference; the complications due to anomalies were not the cause of the prolongation of the hospitalization of the mothers; that congenital anomalies were the most common and lack of oxygenation.

Palabras clave : Down syndrome; Neonatal perinatal complications.
