The exponential increase in the generation of content on the Internet has allowed a greater flow of scientific information in the field of health. In the digital age, healthcare professionals continue to fulfill their promotional and educational role. The objective of this article was to describe some resources available on the internet that serve as a starting point to guide patients and their families in obtaining reliable medical information. A descriptive study and review of the literature was carried out on some of the medical information provider resources for patients available on the internet. Among them: MedlinePlus, a health information service for the general public; Merck Manuals, one of the most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and patients; and the websites of Mayo Clinic, the UK National Health Service (NHS) and WebMD. A brief technical description of the selected pages was made, strengths and recommendations were pointed out to strengthen informational competencies in the general public. The results were complemented with descriptive images of the sites and web addresses to access the proposed resources.
