This work was carried out in a petroleum refining company, with the objective of improving the management of measurements based on the integration of the systematic evaluation of metrological performance with the risk approach and the six sigma methodology. For its fulfillment, a procedure was designed that allows the improvement of the measurement management system, as well as its feedback. Two indexes are evaluated, one for the materialization of the metrological risk and the other for its management; in addition, the level of quality in sigmas of the system is determined.

As a final result, a case study is shown, where the proposed procedure allows obtaining favorable results. Its feasibility as a methodological instrument for the improvement of measurement management in this type of organizations is evidenced.
