Abstract

MULLO ROMERO, Esther Del Carmen  and  MENDOZA TARABO, Arnaldo Efrén. Participatory Integral management System for community tourism in the Sierra region of Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.4, pp. 722-729.  Epub Aug 12, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

The integrated participatory management system for community-based tourism in the Ecuadorian highlands aims to involve all relevant participants in the community planning and management process, including interest groups, non-governmental organizations, and different levels of government, to achieve more effective and sustainable solutions. The methodology used to establish the system was descriptive, with qualitative and quantitative data collection tools such as field observation, surveys, interviews, and statistical methods, as well as participatory action research methods and techniques. The result achieved is the creation of an integrated participatory management system that has a set of interrelated components for the achievement of certain objectives or functions. Its parameters are considered: inputs, outputs, feedback, and general characteristics such as: system components, system structure, functional relationships, and hierarchy. In conclusion, it has been shown that integrated participatory management can improve the effectiveness and sustainability of development and conservation initiatives by involving local communities in the decision-making process and by enabling continuous adaptation to changing needs and requirements.
