Education 4.0 is an innovative approach that seeks to leverage advanced technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance learning and the student experience in higher education. AI can automate tasks, personalize the learning experience, and improve efficiency in scientific research. However, its implementation poses challenges in terms of adopting new educational models, the necessary investment for implementation, and user training. In order to provide detailed information on the advantages of AI application in teaching-learning processes and scientific research in higher education, a systematic literature review was conducted that explored the fundamentals, benefits, and drawbacks of AI, which was shared with professors and students from the Universidad de Oriente, Cuba, to learn about their perceptions on the topic. The results indicate that AI can enhance the teaching-learning process and improve efficiency in scientific research, but it requires careful, ethical and responsible implementation. Furthermore, it is concluded that AI can facilitate adaptation to each student's pace and learning style, optimize time usage and efficiency in research tasks, and foster the development of professional competencies for the job market. However, it is essential to ensure equity, quality, and ethics in its use.
